Bridge Maintenance & Asset Management Services

An overview

AusSpan employs a dedicated staff of inspectors, technicians and consulting engineers charged with the responsibility of ensuring the upkeep and safety of approximately 3000 bridges and a variety of other structures across Tasmania and Victoria.

The AusSpan inspection and maintenance team are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, in order to respond to any emergencies that may arise. These may be as the result of flooding or a vehicle accident. Under usual circumstances these callouts are included within the base contract price. The team has extensive training in all areas of bridge inspection and maintenance and asset management, as well as workplace safety.
To support the team in the performance of its duties, AusSpan employs the latest equipment and computer technology available → read more about our software.
With many bridges and structures bearing loads that were unimaginable when they were originally constructed, early detection of potential faults is essential.

The first indication of a potential fault may not necessarily appear on the surface of the asset. Therefore, AusSpan’s ability to identify potential faults, through the application of professional knowledge, extensive experience, and the latest technology, has never been so critical.

Inspection of structures is, by necessity, an on-going year-round activity. This is acknowledged by AusSpan in its commitment to offering a high level of service to the clients and municipal Councils that the Company supports. Constant vigilance is a necessity to ensure up-to-date knowledge of the condition of the infrastructure AusSpan inspects and maintains.

Flexible & Integrated

Using Excel, even basic operators can quickly find their way around the workbook. Reports are delivered on a printed CD containing multiple sheets for structure details, works required, future renewals, financial and accounting data, 20 year budget forecasts and much more. These reports are linked to structure photos as well as photos of required works. Reports also delivered with a hard copy printout.

Being based in Excel, our software has the flexibility to be custom designed to Client requirements. Users need only a basic introduction to the features of the reports. Reports can be printed on a per structure basis or filtered and printed as a group for Works Supervisors to undertake. Telephone assistance for any queries is included as part of the service to ensure that customers are satisfied and are also able to get the most from their reports.

Works are automatically colour coded to identify new or amended works from prior inspection runs. Accounting data can be toggled between actual lifespan or pre-determined lifespan to suit Council accounting requirements. There are many other features that AusSpan has continually added to its software during the evolution process and some changes have developed out of a client request. AusSpan can provide a list of existing clients for feedback.

AusSpan has used experienced software developers to create an Excel Add-In file which creates an additional toolbar when using Microsoft Excel. This toolbar enables Clients to easily navigate around AusSpan’s software to view data and photos, generate reports, prepare budgets and so forth for their assets. The simplicity of this software being based within Excel is that it is freely usable by Engineers, Works Supervisors, Foremen, Accountants and Managers alike.

Our Bridge Management System has an integrated mapping feature – now available to all users. Bridges can be selected and shown on an interactive map. A photo of the bridge in question is also displayed, making it easy to visualise. A map thumbnail displays an overview of all bridges and can be panned to quickly change view. Maps can also be exported to other programs.
